Halloween Props

Planning on going all out when decorating for Halloween this year? Don't just rely on having scary Halloween costumes. For some real fun, you also need scary Halloween props. If you do it right, you can raise the heart beats of your guests with a horrifying batch of Halloween props designed to give them nightmares.

Theme

When you're considering props, the first thing to determine is the Halloween theme you want to use. You don't want groups of characters that don't match a theme. Try blending characters that go together; for instance, a haunted house with ghosts and witches or a cemetery with tomb stones, skeletons and hooting owls make up two cohesive themes. Try playing around with the theme so you can include different scary or unique costumes. Once you've made up your mind on a theme, you can then list the requirements.

Costumes and Decorations

Costumes that blend together with the Halloween props decorations, sets the ambience for the night. For example, if you have created a gothic looking cemetery entrance with tombstones scattered around, make sure the family is dressed up as zombies and ghosts. Then add one or two rotting corpses sprawled around to give it the perfect look.

Lighting and Special Effects

No matter what props or decorations you use, it's less effective if you don't have lights to highlight special ares. A few ideas include:

  • goblin lights that seem to pop here and there in the air without any support
  • black lights that bring out a flourescent glow
  • strobe lights that raise the pulse with each flash

Spooky Music

The best prop is often the one you can't see...but it is the one that you can hear! Spooky music plays in the background, but it just cannot be ignored. Try blending different tracks together to suit your Halloween haunt theme. Or you can just download our own mixed version of scary music right here on Halloween Corner.
