Easy Halloween Crafts for Kids

Because Halloween originated in the Celtics period of time and was influenced by the Christian tradition of honoring the dead souls, it's appropriate that we dress up in the old traditional long robes and masks, and we paint our faces to represent ghosts and zombies, and other creatures of the night.

Halloween is a fun time for everyone, especially children and teenaged kids. They can't wait to get started on getting their costumes and decorations ready. Keep them busy while they wait for Halloween to arrive with easy kids' Halloween crafts that you can do together.

Halloween can easily be made special with the right decorations, costumes and pumpkins, candles, trick or treat bags, etc. Let's consider a couple of examples to get you started.

Ghost Pops

Little kids can have loads of fun by creating Ghost-Pops for the trick-or-treaters that will be coming by on Halloween night. Start by cutting up a white piece of cloth (a sheet would work well) into small squares. You should do this part yourself, in advance, as you don't want to entrust the scissoring to the little ones. Buy a bag of lollipops, and have the kids wrap a white square of cloth over each lollipop (keeping the lollipop in its original cellophane wrapper for safety's sake). Slip a tiny rubber band around the cloth at the base to keep it tied to the lollipop. Now let your little ones use a black magic marker to create two eyes and a smile on the cloth to give that GhostPop a face! (If your kids are too young to draw, you can do that part yourself). This is very simple and the kids feel like they've contributed to the making of the Halloween crafts.

Haunted Hangies

Now you're ready to let your kids help decorate the house. Stock up on white, orange and black construction paper, a ball of string, and you're all set. Have the kids find simple images (clip art works best) of bats, cats, witches, pumpkins, spiders, ghosts, etc. on the Internet. Print them out and cut them out so they resemble cookie cutter shapes. Now use those cutouts as stencils. Trace them over and over again on construction paper, and let the kids cut them out. Make sure you use kid-safe scissors for this part. Once you have lots of Halloween creatures cut out, poke a hole at the top of each, thread a length of string through each hole, and you've got halloween creatures ready to hang from your ceiling, window sills, porch, etc.

Halloween is a fun time and it's a great feeling when the entire family can put their heads and hands together to create some cool Halloween crafts. So this Halloween, search the stores, surf the net, get ideas and join together in putting together some nice and spooky Halloween crafts. Your kids will remember those days for a lifetime.
